Kenneth Pointer – Director of Bands

 

Kenneth Pointer is a 1979 graduate of Waxahachie High School.  He attended Navarro College in Corsicana where he received an Associates Degree in General Education.  He completed his undergraduate studies at East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas and holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree. 

Mr. Pointer is an educator of 22 years, returning to Kemp ISD after 15 years where he started his career.  He has taught in the Whitney, Karnack and McGregor school districts as well as Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas.  Mr. Pointer’s teaching philosophy is to “infuse his band and choir students with the need to learn, the will to refine their talents, and the desire to become winners.”

 

His professional affiliations and memberships include: The Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, The Percussive Arts Society, and charter membership with the Association of Texas Small School Bands.  He has received honors as: “Who’s Who Among Americas High School Teachers; Educator of the Year by The Wal-Mart Company of Hill County; Teacher of the Year by the Whitney Chamber of Commerce and received the “Mirabeau B. Lamar Award of Excellence” given by the Masonic Grand Lodge of Whitney. He is also an Lifetime member of Kappa, Kappa Psi – National honorary Band Fraternity; Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Music Fraternity and an Honorary member of Tau Beta Sigma Honorary Sorority.
